Muse-ing

Book 1.

You might notice the way that your shoulders or jaw grip tight.

You might notice the way you often chronically hold your breath.

You might notice a sense of being haunted by the fear of getting in trouble, or people being mad at you, or things falling apart.

Our bodies can hold tight in bound patterns of constriction.

There are many reasons for us folks to feel so tense.

Our human world is traveling very fast and still accelerating. We travel fast in cars, planes, trains, emails. People are time battered, expected to multitask and to respond fast and accurately to many details at the same time. Add to this the global transmission of news in an instant, a deluge of terrifying, stressful, and disheartening stories about all the horror. Humans are not equipped to take in all this traumatic chaos from all directions all at one and in detail. It’s overwhelming. And, at the same time there is an expectation that this way of operating is neutral behavior, expected behavior, when in fact this is deeply harmful to humans on a psychological, physiological, and relational level.

No wonder people are so stressed out and reactive. No wonder people make use of so many substances to cope with all of this stress.

And then there are the predatory stalking of capitalism, all these sneaky manipulative pressures to buy more stuff that is not needed. We are so oversaturated with demands for our attention and our dollars. We are conditioned to be dissatisfied with our present moment as it is, and we are pushed and bullied and pressured into being other than we are (straighten hair, become thinner, become healthier, get a better watch, car, computer, couch, get smarter, live more fully, travel somewhere, etc), while also being frightened about the clearly evident impending climate catastrophe that is hardly spoken of.

And what is that about, this astonishing lack of focused collaborative and effective response to the climate destruction afoot?

Well, seems we are so collectively so locked into patterns of conflict and disagreement that we are unable to work together on solutions of mass scale to steer away from catastrophe.

This is so sad. And helpless feeling.

And I want to help us to do this differently, don’t you?

I want to be part of the current who helps enliven us, by call us into the change, by evoking a slower and more mindful way of collaborating to find the path. And by evoking the curiosity of folks to listen with Earth and love Earth and befriend Earth and turn toward Earth.

This Current, of Renchanting Us with Life, Possibility, Collaboration, Listening, and stepping slowly together into mystery. Because we must go into the relational unfamiliar, the cultural unknown, stand amidst our fear of one another and create ways of relaxing together, disarming, and sensing how, now. In ways that are both familiar and unfamiliar to us.
